ADA Beds Installed
What is a community garden if it’s not accessible to everyone in our community?
We have installed four special beds for people who use wheelchairs. These beds are raised to be just high enough to allow someone who uses a wheelchair to easily reach their bed to plant and maintain their garden.
We are excited that all 34 beds in our garden have been installed, and our garden ever marches towards its opening. The Township is still doing some construction.
A pergola is being installed in the back of the garden with picnic tables for working or having a picnic. It’s under a large shade tree, so it will be cool in the summer.
Another set of chairs and tables will be installed in the center of our garden for meetings and classes. The plans call for a sail shade to cover the area.
We are still waiting for water. The township has order the parts needed to build a pipe from the water main to our garden. This pipe will go all around the garden with four spigots and piping for drip irrigation of all the beds. As soon as they arrive, the plumbing will be installed.
Soil enhancement is going to be brought. The township has filled all the beds with about six or seven inches of soil. We will bring in 100% organic compost to top off the beds
We are waiting for the township to let us know when they’ll hand us the keys to the garden. Once that is done, we will open the garden to our gardeners.
Which reminds me: If you are interested in a garden bed, please register on our registration page. Even if you’ve previously said you were interested in a garden before, you must register at https://edisoncommunitygardens.org/register. We realize that some of you have had a change in plans since the early spring when we first announced this gardens. This is why we are asking for everyone to register. If you have already done so, thanks. We expect to have the lottery in a few weeks.
And please read our rules and regulations. These can be found at https://edisoncommunitygardens.org/rules.
And thank you for your patience and understanding. We too are anxious to see our garden growing.
